NARBO Case Study Workshop

The Millennium Development Goals (MGDs) include the target of “reducing by half the population of people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation”. Though many efforts were done and population of people with access to basic sanitation facilities rose rapidly especially in east Asia, there are still lack of proper sanitation and hygiene practice, approximately 1.8 million children die every year due to un-clean water.

NARBO Case Study Workshop

The titled workshop was held in Bangkok on 25 – 26 February 2010 subsequent to 6th IWRM Training held in Da Nang in December 2009. This time, the workshop was hosted by the Department of Water Resources (DWR) of Thailand and conducted by Japan Water Agency (JWA) with financial and technical support of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan (MLIT) and Asian Development Bank (ADB).

– A report from Twinning Program between MASL and JWA 2010 in Sri Lanka –

A memorable exploration of Mahaweli River Basin

Based on an Agreement and MOU signed between Japan Water Agency (JWA) and MASL in 2008, Twinning Program between the two parties has been started by the dispatch of 4 personnel from JWA to Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka (MASL) to JWA in May 2008.The objective of the Twinning program is, as the MOU states, that “to get a better understanding on Integrated Water Resources Management implemented by the other party”.

New Member of NARBO– The Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS) –

The Water and Energy commission (WEC) was established in 1975 and it’s secretariat (WECS) in 1982 by the Government of Nepal with the prime objective of developing policies, strategies, long term plans and visions for the promotion and development of water and energy sector of the nation.
