2. Background

While the concept of IWRM has already been well-recognized, there is still certain gap between recognition of its necessity and actual application. In recent years, to fill the gap, River Basin Organizations (RBOs) have increasingly been expected to play a key role in the governance of the basin and contribute to sustainable water resources governance.

Nowadays, many useful assessment tools such as NARBO's IWRM Indicator, RBO Performance Benchmarking, OECD's Water Governance Indicator to enhance implementation of IWRM have been launched.

In this context, NARBO conducted the International Training on IWRM under Climate Change in 2016 in Thailand. In this training, participants learnt how to clarify the actual situation on implementing IWRM and facilitate promotion of IWRM steadily.

3. Concept

As "IWRM Spiral Model" shows, the process to repeat "recognizing" and "identifying" alternately is necessary for the progress of IWRM. This workshop program offers an opportunity to recognize the current situation of IWRM in each river basin together with its progress from the past, and find hints for further progress in the future through lectures, workshop and a field visit. Through the program, participants will be able to obtain the practical method to formulate a sustainable mechanism of IWRM in the field and the capacity to create practical actions which are tailored to local conditions in their countries and communities.

4. Outline of the training

Goal

Each participant evaluates both the situation of each RBO in 2016 and current one, and then finds future steps to be taken for IWRM through lectures and discussions in the training.

Task

Participants are requested to:

  • complete a task to be assigned before joining the workshop.*
  • make a presentation of the above mentioned material (assigned task) in the workshop.
  • active participation to discussion and exchanging opinion.

*The style file for the task will be shared in the next announcement.
*The style file will be a basic training material in the workshop.

Target Participants

  • Approximately 50 persons: 30 from Thai RBCs and 20 from NARBO member organizations.
  • Target participants consist of the persons who are responsible for implementation of water resource management through IWRM approach.
